  4.  This file contains blurb (brief, promotional text) inviting you to
  5. read each of the stories contained within Dark Portal. It will simply 
  6. give you an outline of the stories available for you to read, along 
  7. with any comments or warnings (I kid you not) I may feel neccessary 
  8. to mention. Please note that a '*' means the story contains nasty 
  9. scenes, and '@#!' means it contains loads of swear words (oh shut up, 
  10. it's only a laugh).

  16.                               NIGHTMARES

  19.  Why "nightmares"? Easy - because that's what these stories are, in 
  20. general: frightening, fictional incidents, most of which could only 
  21. happen (or we hope could only happen) in our very worst dreams. That's
  22. not to say they're all horrible. Confused? Read on...

  25. ?                            THE BLUE CLOCK

  27.  Dark Portal kicks off with the tale of a very untidy kid. No, I take 
  28. that back - this little guy's bedroom makes the aftermath of an earth-
  29. -quake look presentable. Nobody is going to make him clean it up 
  30. though. Oh no, there's no chance of that ever happening... unless of 
  31. course, the thing that's making the ticking noise at night decides to
  32. show itself...

  35. ?                 SAM'S TERRIFYING TRIP TO THE TOILET
  36.  
  37.  It all begins with an aching bladder... and ends in a chaotic fight
  38. between good and evil. How can a trip to the school bogs endanger the 
  39. sanity of a ten-year-old kid? What's beyond that weird U-bend? And 
  40. just what the hell do girls piss out of? Read this and you'll never 
  41. raise your hand in class again...

  44. ?                             THE HUT (@#!)

  46.  Neale Grant, Quatermass Experiment programmer, writer and general 
  47. genius (I arselick him not) wrote this exceptionally good short story
  48. about childhood life. Cheers Neale for letting me use it in DP. Please
  49. note this story is NOT horror. It's just damn fine writing.

  54.   When Carl's mother returns from the supermarket, she really goes 
  55. beserk. Why? It's easy enough to find out...

  60.  This is one of the oldest stories in Dark Portal, based on the true
  61. story of a shy young man. He meets a girl he fancies at a party who,
  62. despite her apparent niceness and beauty, hides a nasty secret...

  67.  Samuel's grandfather has never told such a frightening bedtime story 
  68. before. He wouldn't mind if the story was just something somebody made
  69. up. But this one isn't. This one's about real things, real happenings.
  70. Dark, terrifying happenings...

  73. ?                         FREEDOM'S EDGE (@#!)
  74.  
  75.  Two abused and neglected children join forces and decide to travel to
  76. a legendary land of freedom. Despite the awkward use of English at 
  77. times (the story was begun in 1992 when I couldn't spell or write to
  78. save my life) I think you'll enjoy this one. It's a personal favourite
  79. of mine, believe me.

  83.                             BEYOND TERROR

  86.  The "Beyond Terror" stories are much more gruesome than the ones 
  87. mentioned above (is that possible?! Yes, believe me!). Be very 
  88. careful, for what you read may disrupt your sleep for some time to 
  89. come. Anything particularly nasty (and potentially offensive) has been
  90. marked with an asterix (*).

  95.  Vincent isn't taking his step-daughter to school. Nor is he taking 
  96. her into town to buy some lovely new clothes or to see a movie at the 
  97. cinema. No. The only thing he has in mind is extermination : a murder 
  98. so cold blooded it makes torture seem like a delightful experience...

  103.  Eric Harrison knows only three things: he's a bad person, he's in a 
  104. bad place, and something bad is going to happen to him...

  109.  Or "How To Deal With School Bullies". Oh this story is just soooo
  110. SICK it's unbelievable. It was much too horrible for TQE, so here it 
  111. is in DP. I love it!

  116. for his wife to come out of the hair salon with YET ANOTHER new style.
  117. It's raining damned hard. Snoopy won't stop grinning at him. And just 
  118. what the hell is watching him through the side window...?

  124.  She's not very attractive. She's got a terrible lisp. She's nervous, 
  125. inexperienced. She can not protect herself. But now, she doesn't need 
  126. to - something has chosen her. Something dark, cold, evil... Something
  127. that personally, I wouldn't like to meet on a dark night...
